One Hit Wonders
Because I have gotten behind in my blogging, I am now going ahead. One Hit Wonders Day is actually September 25, but there were no interesting holidays for today or tomorrow. And I am feeling largely uninspired and lacking in the wit department. I have included one-hit wonders from 1975 (the year I was born, on MARCH 3), so some of you might not remember some of them, and some of you might remember all of them.
75 Chevy Van - Sammy Johns
76 Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry
77 Black Betty - Ram Jam
78 Hot Child in the City - Nick Gilder
79 Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles (I remember the Mini-Pops version of this when I was in Grade 4.)
80 Funkytown - Lipps, Inc.
81 Believe It or Not - Joey Scarbury (From "The Greatest American Hero", which nobody else except Kirk seems to remember.)
82 Mickey - Toni Basil/Nobody - Sylvia (I love "Nobody". It is my earliest memory of singing along to the radio. Which was, of course, before the Tune-in-a-Bucket supper incident.)
83 Come On, Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
84 We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister
85 Axl F - Harold Faltermeyer
86 The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades - Timbuk 3
87 She's Like the Wind - Patrick Swayze & Wendy Fraser (Whatever.)
88 Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil (Beulah & the Bridgeo brothers)
89 When I'm With You - Sheriff
90 Groove is in the Heart - Deee-Lite (The most annoying song/video ever.)
91 Walking in Memphis - Mark Cohn
92 I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred/Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus (Who is incredibly sexy...if you're into mullets and line dancing men in too-tight jeans. Geck.)
93 What Is Love - Haddaway
94 Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm - Crash Test Dummies
95 Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something (One of my top 10 favourite songs of all time.)
96 Macarena - Los Del Rio
97 The Freshman - the Verve Pipe (Not to be confused with....)
98 Bittersweet Symphony - the Verve
99 Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega
00 Who Let the Dogs Out - The Baha Men (Okay. So Groove Is In the Hearrrrtttt has competition.)
01 Never Had a Dream Come True - S Club 7
02 Heaven - DJ Sammy (Be careful if you download this one. You may get the most frightening song I've ever heard. "My tummy hurts". Creepy.)
03 Stacey's Mom - Fountains of Wayne
04 Collide - Howie Day
05 You're Beautiful - James Blunt
In closing, I would just like to say...How can I dance if the earth is turning?

Groove is in the Heart is more annoying than Who Let the Dogs Out by far! .....I started kindergarten today daddy and we had carrots for dinner. sniff sniff....Who would download a song that depressing anyway?
There's only one person I can think of...
I love Groove is in the Heart. Ok now to pick this list apart. "We Are The World has been voted the number one, one hit wonder of all time. I'm a little surprised We're not going to take it is listed as it was not their only hit by far. I wanna Rock was huge and had a resurgence lately when it was featured in the movie roadtrip. They also wrote the Hab theme song (You're gonna burn in Hell) which was featured in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I will replace it with Elmo & Patsy's Grandma got run over by a Reindeer. My favourite from 85 was Turn Up the Radio by Autograph but I agree with Axl F. So many better ones to choose from 86. I'll list three I wanna Be A Cowboy, Keep Your Hands to Yourself by Georgia Sattelites and the Dr and the Medics classic remake and still best version of the song: Spirit in the Sky. For 88 I like the Midnight Oil song (Aussie band) but I would have to go with Don't Worry Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin. That song was huge. I do think Nothing Compares to You was a bigger song than Groove is in the Heart for 90. My fav would be Faith No More by Epic. I reject Achy Breaky for 92 on principal and replace it with either Life is A Highway, Jump Around by House of Pain, or Baby Got Back by Sir Mix a lot. My fav Saigon Kick, love is on the way. I agree with What is Love for 93 but let's not forget Tasmine Archer's Sleeping Satellite 500 Miles by the Proclaimers, Whoomp there it is and Informer by Snow. 94 I don't understand the Crash Test Dummies being here as that wasn't even their most popular song. That would go to Superman. Anyways replace them with Baby I love Your Way by Big Mountain. For 97 I think Tubthumping was much more popular even if it was an inferier sonf to the freshman. 98 what about Closing Time or Sex and Candy. 99 should have been Blue by Eifel 65. For obvious reasons I will exclude the 2000 selection and replace it with Story of a Girl by 9 Days. 2001 Crazy for this Girl by Evan and Jaron. 2002 Headstrong by Trapt. 2003 Boys of Summer the Ataris. 2004 Broken by Seether. and 2005 i agree. For 2006 I will pick something by Angels and Airwaves which is of course assuming they can manufacture a hit. How is that for a response?
holy crap... kirk come home now... the island is sinking man and i don't wanna swim... bring back your superior wisdom and perhaps a koala "not bear"... life is imcomplete without you here...

Yeah. I agree with most of your song selections. It wasn't a list of the best from each year, just some of my favourites and in particular, those with attached memories. And I also disagreed with some of the selections (ie, Twisted Sister and especially CTD...), but I googled it, and you know that if it is on the internet it must be true. So pffft...obviously you must miss our banter if instead of surfing you spent all that time on a response...how sweet. I miss you, too.
Stacies mom has got it going on. Just like me.
new post... this one is sooo over my head... i just feel the music man... i cannot relate it to dates and years... heavy dude...
Hi Not Neves. I followed a link here. You islanders seem to be quite the music buffs! Don't Worry Be Happy was my favorite. Weird how songs bring back memories, eh?
